Sturgis Run

3

This spot offers an exciting hole for intermediate paddlers, especially within medium flow ranges. It’s also great for tubing, advanced swimming, and boogie boarding. The calm, spacious stretch just downstream makes it perfect for tubers and swimmers to enjoy during lower flows.

Tips from the Paddling Community

From 12k CFS down to 3K CFS this feature provides a fun, “rowdy” hole for intermediate paddlers that can be play boated or boogie boarded easily from the eddy space or feature.  Tubing this hole is also very fun, as well as swimming through it.  However, from 12k CFS to 7k CFS the feature should be used by more advanced swimmers because of the stronger currents.  Between these levels the river right eddy line is sharp and fast, if you miss it, it is a strong swim back into the eddy above number 5.  This noted, the eddy is very big and provides a good draw into shore for those wishing to exit.  Below 6k CFS the eddy is easy to obtain and the power diminishes.  Between number 3 and number 5 is a large calm water space that is great for tubers and swimmers both.
